Part Three: Perfect and Entire, Wanting Nothing (James 1:4)

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

"But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." - James 1:4 KJV

The word "perfect" here indicates something that has reached its end, something that is finished. It carries the idea of being fully developed or complete. We are are all still being molded and shaped every day by God. Every day. We will never be complete here on this earth. But one day we will be fully developed and perfect, just as Christ.

The word "entire" here when Paul used the word to the Thessalonians it was in view of the coming rapture, we should be whole in spirit, soul and body. The idea is that every grace present in Christ should be manifested in the believer. Or, as James puts it, "wanting [lacking] nothing." If we are in God's word and trusting Him with every step and decision we make, we aren't going to want for anything. God fulfills every want a desire we have.

Lets talk about "patience" for a moment...

'Patience' is a farmer's word. The farmer plows and plants his field, but then he has to wait patiently for the harvest.

'Patience' is a photographer's word. The photographer patiently waits for the right moment, the right angle, the right second to get that perfect shot he's looking for.

'Patience' is an astronomers word. His calculations tell him the impending visit of a comet or the coming of an eclipse, In no way can he hurry the process. If he wants to to see this beautiful moment, he must wait.

'Patience; is God's word. God is never in a hurry. God's word to us is "Wait!" It takes time for the earth to complete it's trip around the sun. It takes time for the farmer's crops to grow and flourish. It takes time for a child to grow from a babe to a grown man. It takes time for us to grow to full maturity in Christ. It takes time! We must have patience.

We live in a day of fast food and getting things done fast and quick. We must walk with God before we can run with Him. Work on your walk with God before you run the race.

I've recently started training myself to go from a walker to a runner. And its not easy. I can't just get up one morning and decide I'm going to run a mile and then go on with my day. No. If I tired that, I'd crash and hurt myself. I have to train myself, start of slow and run for a minute, then walk some, then run again, then walk again. One day I'll be able to run a mile without stopping or sound like I'm dying.

That's just like our walk with God, we can't rush our walk, we have to have patience and faith as God grows us into what He would have us to be. We shouldn't rush it and end up crashing and burning, that would hurt us and possibly others. It's a process that one day we will be completed and we will be perfect like Christ.

God says to wait, have patience.

Thank you for going through this study and learning right along with me. I pray you learned something and have been encouraged to 'count it all joy' through your daily walk, to have patience and have faith in God more so than yesterday.
